Saint Andrew was one of the Twelve Apostles, along with his brother Saint Peter. Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland and of our school. 

Andrew and his brother were fishermen. They were called from their fishing by Jesus, who promised to make them "fishers of men".  Andrew was among the first Apostles listed in the Gospels of Mathew, Mark and Luke. In the Gospel of John, Andrew is the first Apostle named and was also a disciple of Saint John the Baptist before Jesus' call. 

Saint Andrew was crucified on a cross that was turned sideways to look like an "X". He did not want to be crucified on the same type of cross as Jesus, so this is why it was turned sideways.  The Saint Andrew's flag represents this. 

We celebrate Saint Andrew's day on the 30th of November.
